Congratulations! You have successfully gotten hired by a client on FreeUp.
What happens now?
There are a few things you can do to ensure you and the client will work together successfully. In this blog, we will discuss how and why you should create a written contract to ensure a successful freelance career.
First, Follow Up
You just nailed an interview with a potential client. What do you do next?
Start by sending a follow up email to the client:
Thank the client for their time
Recap everything you discussed during the interview
Send the client the link to where they can hire you on the platform
Include this link: https://timeclock.freeeup.com/client/ticket?ticketId=INSERTTICKETNUMBER
Here is an example of a good follow up email:
You’re Hired!
After the client clicks the magical “hired” button, it’s time to get to work on a written contract.
What exactly is a contract?
It is a legally binding contract between 2 parties. It should be written after an initial agreement and before any work begins.
Why is a written agreement important?
Helps avoid billing issues or client disputes
You and the client are on the same page regarding hours to be billed, hourly rate, and the scope of work
It is clear what the expected hours and productivity are
Creates project milestones so the client can approve the project along the way
Helps create a relationship with the client based on clear communication
A written agreement is imperative to a successful project.
What Should You Include In A Contract?
The specific components of a contract can vary depending on your industry. However, they should all contain a few of the same components.
Every basic contract should include:
Names of both parties and contact information
The scope of the project
Your job duties and hourly rate
Payments occur weekly on Thursday’s
Length of the project and deadlines
Refund policy
Ownership
In most cases, since you are being paid by the client to do the work, the contract will grant them full rights to the project
Confidential information: While working for your clients, you may receive access to confidential information such as logins and passwords, customer information, etc.
You should include a section in the contract forbidding the use or disclosure of this information once the project is over
As you can see, it is extremely important to discuss and sign a contract before starting work with your clients.
You should send a copy of the contract to support@freeup.net. They may also be cc’d on any communication between you and the client.
Success!
Now you have all of the skills to create successful contracts for your clients!
